Core Curriculum, The (see The Expanded Core Curriculum below).----Educators define the knowledge and skills, generally those related to academic subjects a student should have learned by high school graduation. Hatlin. Expanded Core Curriculum, The (see The Core Curriculum above).----Those educational and related service areas which are required by students with visual impairment in addition to the Core Curriculum and/or to make the Core Curriculum accessible. I.D.E.A.----Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The Federal Special Education Law. I.E.P.----Individual Education Plan. The education plan developed by the team for students who are in need of support due to a disability. I.F.S.P.----Individual Family Service Plan. The service plan developed by the early intervention team for children ages 0-3. I.M.C.----Instructional Materials Center. May also be referred to as "The Media Center" or "Instructional Resource Center". In NH this entity is housed within and is an integral component of, the statewide resource project. M.I.C.E.----Multi-Sensory Intervention throughConsultation and Education. NH program that provides statewide support services to Early Intervention Programs and Direct Services to Families with children who have sensory impairments. N.A.P.V.I.----Abbreviation for the National Association of Parents of Visually Impaired. New Hampshire has an active chapter (NH/NAPVI). N.F.B.----Abbreviation for the National Federation of the Blind. New Hampshire has an active chapter known as The National Federation of the Blind of New Hampshire. N.O.A.H.----Abbreviation for the "National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation" New Hampshire has an active chapter (NH/NOAH). National Agenda, The ----"The National Agenda For the Education of Children and Youths with Visual Impairments, Including Those with Multiple Disabilities" Corn, Hatlin, et. al. 1995. A national improvement plan developed with input from all major stakeholders. O.S.E.R.S.----Office Of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services. Federal agencies with oversight responsiblitilies for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Orientation & Mobility (O&M)----The educationally related service by which a child develops body image, spatial organization, safety and independent travel skills. Instruction is provided by a qualified Orientation and Mobility Instructor. Q.T.S.B.V.I.----Abbreviation for Qualified Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired. May also be referred to as a "Teacher of Visually Impaired" (TVI). Certification by NH Department of Education establishes "Qualification". S.A.U.----School Administrative Unit. The local education agency responsible for the education of all students. Identified by a number (for example SAU 1). |
